Examination pursuant to the Insurance and Reinsurance Distribution Act

Proficiency examination defined by Act no 170/2018 Coll., on Insurance and Reinsurance Distribution The examination applies to all independent intermediaries, tied agents and complementary insurance intermediaries (that is for employees and tied agents of independent intermediaries, insurance companies, financial advisors who contract insurance or reinsurance and all intermediaries and insurance and reinsurance providers).

Why to have

  • Passing the examination represents gaining proficiency pursuant to the Act.
  • Pursuant to the currently valid wording of the Insurance and Reinsurance Distribution Act, since 1 December 2018 it has not been allowed to perform activities in the area of insurance and reinsurance distribution without proof of proficiency represented by a certificate of passing this examination (including alternative methods designed for the transitory period, read on, please).

School-leaving Examination Requirement

  • A new requirement applies for proving general knowledge by complete secondary education with a certificate of passed school-leaving examination, or at least 3 years of practical experience in insurance intermediation before legal force and effect of the Act (1 December 2018). The intermediaries without a school-leaving examination may newly complete their secondary education by 1 July 2022.

Progress of Examination

  • The whole progress of preparation and evaluation is executed online, the examination itself is a written examination (printed questions and answers manually checked in the answer sheet, which is evaluated by automated means).
  • The length and the scope of the examination are subject to the category (proficiency group). Combined category examinations include combined questions of different categories.

Examination Passing and Evaluation

Each category examination includes 3/4 of the test questions with a single correct answer (scored with 1 point each), 1/4 of the test questions with multiple correct answers (scored with 2 points each) and 2-4 case studies - model situations with 5 questions and 1 correct answer each (scored with 2 points each)

To pass the examination the following minimum requirements must be met:

  • 75 % of the available total test maximum score
  • 60 % of the available test question maximum score (knowledge)
  • 60 % of the available case study maximum score (skills)

The examination result is usually available on the day of the examination, but not later than within 48 hours from the time of the examination completion (delivered by e-mail including the e-certificate). The certificate validity is unlimited.
